Air Conditioning Basics
The four main components to your air conditioner are:
Condenser: The condenser is the outside metal unit and where the gas from the compressor is condensed into a liquid. The gas entering the condenser is very hot. The temperature is then lowered, so the gas can convert back to a liquid.
Compressor: The compressor is inside the condenser. It circulates the pressurized refrigerant, to concentrate the heat, and changes the low pressure gas to high pressure.
Evaporator: The evaporator is the part of the system inside the home. In simple language, it absorbs the heat from your home.
Expansion Valve: The expansion valve controls the amount of refrigerant in your system.
All of these pieces are connected by a copper tube that handles refrigerant, creating a closed loop. Heat is collected in the evaporator, sent outside to the condenser. The heat is removed, and the cool air is recirculated back into your home.
An Air Conditioner Doesn’t Create Cool Air.
What happens in the AC process is actually the removal of heat from the air. Your AC uses a chemical called refrigerant to remove heat and transfer it outside. The warm air runs through the lines and coils in your unit and goes from liquid to gas and back again. During this process, the refrigerant removes the heat and transfers it elsewhere so that when the air comes out the other side, it is cool.
Your AC Will Remove Humidity.
Lower humidity helps the overall comfort level in your home by making you feel cooler, even if the temperature is the same.
Your Air Filter Needs To Be Checked And Replaced Every Three To Six Months.
(depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations)
A dirty air filter restricts your air flow, which reduces efficiency, costing you money, and over time can put stress on your unit and could cause a costly repair.
Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance.
Your air conditioner needs regular checkups to keep it running in tip-top shape. Having regular annual preventative maintenance will bring your system longer life and fewer breakdowns over all.
The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) measures air conditioning and heat pump cooling efficiency, which is calculated by the cooling output for a typical cooling season divided by the total electric energy input during the same time frame. A higher SEER rating means greater energy efficiency.
At Eastergard HVAC, we provide all the services you need to keep your AC running in top-notch shape. Call us at 864-235-2935 for repairs, maintenance, or new-system installation.
I would definitely recommend them!
We have had Eastegard since 2006
“Tom was on time, called us prior to arriving. Since this is a home new to us, it was nice to have hm check everything and even explain somethings to is. We have had Eastegard since 2006 at our former home and saw no reason to switch,”

We were thrilled that we now live in an area that Eastergard services!
“In our newly purchased home, we recently had the coil condenser in the attic to leak down the walls and under the laminate flooring causing it to buckle. Our service provider for the previous house in Central helped divert the leak, but determined the unit irreparable. They were not able to provide a statement to use for our claim with the homeowner’s insurance. Plus their quote for a new unit was very high.
Thankfully, the Lord reminded us that Eastergard had serviced our unit when we lived in Simpsonville, so I called. Chad listened to our plight and willingly came himself to see if repairs were possible or give a quote.
We ended up purchasing a complete system for a reasonable price for a brand that is made to last and should service us well for many years.
We were in touch with Chad many times during the purchase and installation process. He was always patient and courteous. It was obvious he is very knowledgeable re: HVAC systems and what should and shouldn’t be done. He was also willing to provide a statement for the insurance company.
These same great qualities were displayed by Hector and Mark that did the installation!!! They were a few minutes early for the install and worked hard on a very hot day – though they did take a short break on our porch when I offered watermelon and pound cake!!!!!!!
We have known George, the original owner, for many years and trusted his service of our units. Then when we were needing help this time, we were thrilled that we now live in an area that Eastergard services. It is easy for us to recommend Eastergard for HVAC needs.”

Thanks for a job well done
“A shout out to the folks at Eastergard. They were able to replace an old system, make the required changes and give us a much better system that is now matched to our needs. The work was all done in a day and the clean up was great. Hardly know they were here except for how comfortable it now is. Thanks for a job well done.”

We will continue to call on them and keep referring them to others.
“Lost our condenser coil just a day before putting our home on the market and receiving showings. Have trusted George / Eastergard for over 20 years, and they again were responsive, prompt, professional, and helpful and courteous. Zack, Chad, and team were able to work us in the next morning, found us a deal and an upgrade on an available coil and replaced it before several planned home showings in the afternoon. As we move downtown we will continue to call on them and keep referring them to others.”
